When Cody met Ashley in 2022, she had a quiet hobby: two homes she'd remodeled and turned into Airbnbs, learning it as she went. His skills and her hobby found a spark in each other, and in 2023 they founded Refract Ventures together — a story that grew naturally into something more, and continues to be the family's passion project. By 2024 he was leaning in on the real estate alongside the kids.
He builds things too — networks, mostly. The Navy first, with a couple deployments across the equator, then many years at Google building their global network, primarily in Europe — much of it at layer 0, where the work is literally light through glass. That's where the company name comes from: Refract is his word. Today he's a full-time network architect.
He doesn't operate the businesses day-to-day. His day job has his full commitment, and each company has its own operator. What he brings doesn't show up on an org chart: the belief that turned a hobby into a company, a builder's eye on everything the family takes on, and the steadiness that keeps the long game long.
